About Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken

Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken

Our Story

Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken was born in 1976 when founder Joe Dion opened the first location in Los Angeles, California. After relocating from Michigan in 1957, Dion spent years perfecting his signature recipe — chicken in a zesty Cajun batter, fried to a soft crunch — drawing inspiration from a New Orleans chef and countless research trips to Louisiana.

Growth was rapid. By 1979 ten stores were operating across Southern California, and Dion began licensing the brand to independent operators. Today, hundreds of LFFC locations serve communities across the United States and beyond.

A Community-Driven Brand

The LFFC story is deeply tied to the Cambodian-American community. In 2009, Michael P. Eng — who had converted a taco stand on 91st Street and Central Avenue into a thriving LFFC location — acquired the entire brand. By that time, roughly 90% of the approximately 100 operating restaurants were Cambodian-owned.

The LA Times chronicled this remarkable story in their feature, “How Cambodians Became The Kings Of Beloved South L.A. Fried Chicken Chain.” Under Eng’s stewardship, the brand continues to grow, with all stores independently owned and operated by licensee owners — making every LFFC location a true small business rooted in its community.

Expanding to Canada

Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken is excited to announce our expansion into Canada. We are looking for passionate, driven entrepreneurs who want to bring the LFFC experience to Canadian communities from coast to coast.

Whether you are in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, or anywhere in between, there is an opportunity to bring Louisiana-style fried chicken to your neighbourhood.
